NESN launches The Globe 10.0 with FULL MENTAL JACKET virtual set
Los Angeles virtual set and realtime graphics designers FULL MENTALJACKET have just completed an interactive 3D virtual set for New England Sports Network (NESN) new series The Globe 10.0. This new series, shot in HD, features Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan and some of Boston’s best sportswriters in rapid-fire debate on the hottest topics of the New England sports scene
FMJ Creative Director Ronen Lasry worked closely with NESN’s Director of Creative Services Jonathan K. Markella and Senior Broadcast Designer Michael Barrett to create a virtual environment that matches the intensity and dynamic tone of the show.
The design included a photo-realistic virtual set and realtime graphics that tie strongly into the logo and brand of the show. “FMJ delivered a great set design that is bold and truly unique. It really brought the show to a new level”, said Markella, “We could not have achieved such a high end look any other way other than with a virtual set.”
The set consists of three video walls that play animated graphic loops designed by NESN to represent each segment of the show. Intensely lit architectural elements incorporate a series of smaller screens which are also fully functional.
One of the design’s highlights is the “COIN”, a unique animated 3D OTS that displays graphics and video for the series’ daily 10 topics. “I wanted to create an interactive component that showed the capabilities of a virtual set”, said Lasry. “The “COIN” displays text and realtime 3D graphics for each debate topic. It makes the show content really pop for the viewer.”
Paul Lacombe of Brainstorm America programmed the Topic Rundown and “COIN” feature. He also managed installation of the Brainstorm virtual studio system and trained NESN’s staff on how to utilize the program.
The Globe 10.0, a collaboration between NESN and The Boston Globe, debuted June 26th and runs three nights a week on NESN.
NESN is the cable sports network of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins;
a service for New England TV subscribers that is available through cable and satellite providers in NESN's home broadcast territory (all of New England except Fairfield County, CT). A limited amount of NESN's programming is available outside NESN's home broadcast territory through satellite providers.
